I don't know Skitch. I haven't been down there (about 75 mi from here) since
the temps dropped. Looking at the 9:30 AM pic (1/31/04), it appears that the
narrow channel may be open. I see lots of ice too. I always wanted to try
the ice sailing bit (sleds), looks like fun.

Island and the ferry to Shelter Island had to resort to ice breaking to
cross
the gap between Greenport and SI. It actually rode up on the ice and
broke it
down. Had to back out of a thick piece and work in from a different
angle.
The wife was a little worried. I think it is impassable now.
