Hi, I have been trying to find a soultion to the follwing problem:
10th of september 2000, Zonetime=09:38, a ship at N58 18,0' E18 42,4' takes
a compass bearing to the sun of 144 degrees.
What is the ship's compass deviation if magnetic variation is +4?
The answer is -5 degrees. That would mean that the sun's bearing is 143
degrees.
I have calculated and re- calculated but cannot conclude on 143 degrees.
ZT=09:38
UT=08:38
-?T=-01:14:50
MT=07:23:10
+ET=+00:02:49
TT=07h25min59sec I used this time to find GHA and dec.
If there are any celestial navigators reading maybe you could give me a few
pointers.
thanks, keith
Please explain your "times" further. At first glance, you should have
used: ZT 0938
ZD -1
GMT 0838 .... to get GHA and dec.
BG it's been a looooooong time, so, try this and see if it works. If
not, either I can jog some memories ( read, look it up) or someone else
can give you the correct info
