Democrats Call for Boycott of American Products
Democrats Call for Boycott of American Products
(2003-11-05) -- Faced with the unexpected prospect
of running against George Bush during an economic
recovery which has shown remarkable gains since
earlier in the year and is on track to becoming one
of the strongest recoveries since the Reagan tax
cuts 20 years ago, the Democrat National Committee
(DNC) today called on Americans to boycott American
products and services.
"If consumers continue to spend money and business
owners continue to ramp up production," said DNC
Chairman Terry McAuliffe, "then there's nothing to
stop a second Bush term. And we all know how bad
that would be for the economy. The only way to save
this economy is to destroy the recovery by boycotting
American products and services so we can elect a
Democrat to the White House."
The DNC said it will devote about $100 million to the
boycott campaign, using consultants and talent from
other countries as much as possible.
"Most of our ad dollars will go to NBC, by virtue of
its merger with Vivendi, the French company," said
Mr. McAuliffe. "We regret that some Americans will
benefit from our 'Boycott America' campaign, but
with this global economy it's really hard to completely
avoid financing the Bush economic recovery."
"We have worked too long and too hard talking down
the economy in the hopes we could make it so until the
Presidential election in 2004 but all signs indicate we
have come up a couple years short of our goal. So,
instead of just talking down the economy we must
take drastic, concrete action to bring it down. The
best way to bring down a booming economy is huge
tax increases but we no longer have enough votes
in Congress to pass huge tax increases so we are
forced to use other means. These might include
debilitating strikes from labor unions, forest fires
set by our operatives, and further aid and comfort
to terrorists by supporting their efforts in Iraq,
Afghanistan, Iran and anywhere else they may find
solace and encouragement by our actions to stop
the war against them. We are hoping this will
embolden them enough to engage in another
911 type attack that will damage the recovery,
and discredit Bush policies." said Mr. McAuliffe
who, when asked, admitted he would stop at
nothing in order that the Democrat party regain
power.
