Do it.
Later they add: "Depreciation Waiver will not apply to boats after the
fifteenth year from
the time of manufacture."
The above does not apply to my current policy through Traveler Yacht Insurace,
which is costing me 120 dollars less than the Boat US policy I had on Ghost. I
know too many people who were burned by BoatUS or at the very least were
treated like criminals after they suffered damage that was not their fault in
any way. There's a Hunter 40 at my yard that was in a long dispute with BoatUS
after she suffered storm damage. BoatUS tried to claim that some damage could
not be attributed to the storm directly and so on. Anything to drag out the
situation and lower the settlement in their favor. Same deal on an Alberg 30 at
Morgan's Marina. Too many rotten stories about BoatUS. No one I know uses them
anymore.
No doubt some people have had good luck with them, just no one I've ever met.
Travelers insurance was recomended to me by several friends at yards who do
repairs. If West Marine took over the operation that's still another reason to
go with a more profesional outfit.
I like the fact that the agent knew what My boat was right down to the issues
she might have. So did their approved surveyor. Not so with BoatUS.
