possibly a new boat

Didn't know they made a flat-top 28. I'm familiar with the flat-top 25.
Yup... I like it better than the raised top Cal 29 as far as looks go.
I'm going to take her out early next week and see how she sails.
Is it one of those old 1960's self-tackers? I agree, you don't want that.
Yep... at least it comes off easily. :-)
I can get it for $6K and they'll split the haulout and survey with me.
They were asking $9K.
I'm going to do a sea trial hopefully soon.
I haven't got a complete list yet, but besides the new head, I'd imagine
that I'd want to replace the winches (two). Blocks are fine.. they look
new, but the survey should reveal any defects in the rigging or at least
a recommendation. That might be a way to lower the price.
I think I'll also have to replace the bats. I have an uninstalled shore
power
set up that I haven't used, so I could use that. I believe it doesn't have a
shore power connection right now. I'm also concerned about the effectiveness
of the alternator, but I'll know more after a bit more investigation.
Have you written up a list of everything you'd want to upgrade and how
much
it would cost? New blocks, new running rigging, new batteries (what sort
of
charger does it have?), new sails? Unless the standing rigging has been
renewed in the past ten years, I'd count on doing that too.
What did I say that leads you to that statement... the "given what you say
about the boat" part?
Thanks for the input!
Jonathan
$9K this boat is insane in the current market... $6K doesn't sound like
such
a bargain, given what you say about the boat.
