Nothing actually; I would have been cautious too. That's appropriate
for the inexperienced, which I'm happy to admit to WRT small boats.
Bob's credibility problem comes from claiming to be an expert while
acting like a novice. The more he blusters, the more ovbious it is that
he doesn't know what he's doing and is too thick/conceited to admit it.
