Hi group,
I will be cruising the Chesapeake this weekend for the first time on my
Regal
26' pocket cruiser w/ single 350 Mercruiser. This will be my first time
on the
Chesapeake Bay. The plan is to put in at the Tidewater Marina in Havre
de
Grace Friday morning, and cruise down to Annapolis for the sailboat show
on
Saturday. We are hoping to find a mooring, or a slip for Friday night
within
walking distance of the show.
How long is the trip from Havre de Grace to Annapolis? And can anyone
recommend a transient dock for Friday night? Is it possible to tie off
at the
public docks for the night? If yes, are there any publics near the boat
show?
Not much of a plan I know, but like I said, I have never been on the
Chesapeake
before.

It's about 50 miles as the crow flies, if memory serves. You should
buy a good book of Bay charts if you plan to spend time on that body
of water. Buy it before you go.
Your chances of finding a slip or mooring in Annapolis the weekend of
the sailboat or powerboat show are pretty slim. The public docks on
the show side are used to display the boats.
The harbor in Annapolis disappears as you will literally be walking on water
for 80% of the show. But, the most amazing spectacle of all is Sunday night
when the the harbor turns from boats and docks back to water again. If
you've never seen it your really should stay late on Sunday.
You are better off driving a car and parking at Navy Marine Corp Memorial
Stadium and riding the bus down to the docks.
