Can anyone provide any info about the cause of the crash that
claimed the life of golfer Payne Stewart? I don't remember ever
hearing of a definitive final ruling.

"The National Transportation Safety Board determines the
probable cause of this accident was incapacitation of the
flight crewmembers as a result of their failure to receive
supplemental oxygen following a loss of cabin pressurization,
for undetermined reasons."

The NTSB's final report on this accident (which occurred on October
25, 1999) was adopted on November 28, 2000. The report number is
AAB-00-01, and it's available in PDF format from the NTSB web site at

http://www.ntsb.gov/publictn/2000/AAB0001.pdf

In brief, the report says the Lear 35 crashed after running out of
fuel near Aberdeen, South Dakota, more than four hours after the
last radio communication with the crew. The condition of the
wreckage made it impossible to conclusively determine what
caused the aircraft to lose cabin pressure, or why the crew
was unable to use the cockpit oxygen masks.
