That's the purpose of the one prolonged/two short blasts. It
tells everyone who hears it that the vessel making the sound
is a sailboat, NUC, RAM, etc. and needs to be given a
wide berth so as not to cause a close quarters situation. The
motor vessel does not have to know what the other vessel
is doing; it needs only to stay clear and not cause a close
quarters situation.
ROFL The sound signal only tells you that a vessel of some type is out there
...... nothing else ...... zap insufficient data ...."assumptions shall not be
made on scanty information"
