*In addition to the motion detector security floods around the
house, we have exterior garage and front porch lights that are on
switch timers. I bought and installed these about 15 years ago. They
are a pain in the ass with the tiny screens built into switches that
no one really has the eyesight to see.

So, I saw and bought a couple of replacement switches that are
controllable by iPhone, ALEXA, whatever. Easy to install, easy to
read screen on the iPhone or other device. Work via wi-fi. Despite
my innate klutziness, I installed each switch in about 10 minutes
and once I installed the app on my iPhone, I "programmed" then in a
couple of minutes. Came on at 5 pm and shut off at 6 am. Hot damn.

There are many brands of these switches available on Amazon. The
cheap ones all look pretty much alike and of course they are
manufactured in China. Mine were $12 and change each.

You are probably the last individual in the group to embrace this
technology. Hint: program them to come on at dusk. I applaud you for
challenging your inate klutziness. Keep up the good work.

I might be. The timers I originally installed worked ok, but were a
pain in the ass to reset if I wanted a change, but not enough of a
pain in the ass to bother changing them. I stumbled across their
replacements while searching for a couple of three-way switches.

Three way switches are a little too deep for you unless you are just
replacing one.

Oh, that must be the explanation for the ones I installed last week are
working properly.

I doubt you could run the wiring and hook up 3 way switches. Just replacing
switches is something your cat could do.
