"Avoid" implies I took deliberate steps to not serve in the military.
Like almost every kid I knew in high school, male or female, I went to
college upon graduation and I kept my draft board aware of my location.
The draft board didn't contact me to report, and it didn't contact the
majority of young men in my age group. You apparently enlisted because
you were drafted or you couldn't make it in even a community college.
