And a chaotic election could be just the time China decides to do it!

Considering the world's apathy toward what's going on in Hong Kong, it
wouldn't surprise me. The only question is whether it is worth a
nuclear war over. We are not beating China in a conventional war in
their own back yard. They might be willing to lose a million soldiers
in that war. How many dead Americans would be acceptable for us,
fighting for an island most people think is part of China anyway?

Our success in non-nuclear wars with Asians has been pretty dismal.

What gives you the idea China would stop with Taiwan?

Uh Oh the dreaded domino theory again.

How many Asian wars do we have to lose over that cold war rhetoric?

They haven't even indicated they want to take Taiwan and you already
have them in Hawaii.

Read the article. You missed the point entirely.

I read it but I think the real result will be Japan waving a nuke or
two in the air. They are fully capable of the technology, even if the
US didn't just give them some like we did for Israel. That is a domino
that might not be so easy to topple. If we are really so worried about
Taiwan itself, why wasn't there more pressure to keep Hong Kong?
As for the Philippines, they chose to leave the US and kicked us out.
"Ya spins the wheel, ya take your chances".

We weren't in control of Hong Kong.

We aren't in charge of Taiwan either, nor the Philippines and in the
latter case that was their choice.

Maybe you should read the 2018 report on US Taiwan relations from
Trump's state department

https://www.state.gov/u-s-relations-with-taiwan/

... and understand what the Jimmy Carter era law that still stands,
said.
We say we will "Maintain the Capacity" to defend Taiwan but it doesn't
say we will do it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan_Relations_Act

Trump just signed another law the TAIPEI Act that says the US will
strengthen Taiwan's relations with the rest of the world but we are
silent about them not being part of China. We say we will "Maintain
the Capacity" to defend Taiwan but it doesn't say we will do it.
The exact language is

"the President should--
(i) ``conduct regular transfers of defense
articles to Taiwan that are tailored to meet the
existing and likely future threats from the
People's Republic of China, including supporting
the efforts of Taiwan to develop and integrate
asymmetric capabilities, as appropriate,
mobile, survivable, and cost-effective
capabilities, into its military forces".

We have seen language like that before. We just said we would
"Taiwanese" the war. I bet you remember what that meant in 1974-5

Our official stance is "not our circus, not our money". We don't have
formal relations with Taiwan and we don't admit it is not part of
China.

Tell me again, how many GIs should die for them?

We can't and shouldn't go to war with China over Taiwan. But, to me, it's a much
bigger matter than the Black Lives Matter issue going on in this country.
