How is that? If you are just saying the irrational demand that people
wear a mask will make reopening more politically viable, I might agree
but there are a whole lot of people who don't like meaningless

With all due respect I think you are being too literal about the mask
issue. I agree that the lack of standards and procedures would fall
short of what is needed in an operating room or "clean room."
On the other hand we are dealing with a situation that is not well
understood on many different levels. I'd argue that even if masks or
other face coverings are not 100% effective. they are a step in the
right direction, probably help to some unknown extent, and help to
remind everyone to be careful.
We do know for sure that something is working as reflected in the
lower rates of infection and death. That's a good thing regardless of
cause, especially for those of us who qualify as senior citizens. It's
also a good thing for the economy and a return to some semblence of
normalacy.
