Memorial Day thoughts: One of the moving parts of a military
ceremony for a deceased veteran is the Honor Guard precisely
folding the American Flag 13 times and then presenting it to the
deceased's next of kin. Why 13 times? Many assume it's in
honor of the original 13 states, but that's not the reason.Â* Here's
the meaning or tribute of each fold: 1.Â* The first fold of our
flag is a symbol of life. 2.Â* The second fold signifies our
belief in eternal life. 3.Â* The third fold is made in honor and
tribute of theÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* veteran departing our ranks, and who gave a
portionÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* of his or her life for the defense of our country
toÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* attain peace. 4.Â* The fourth fold exemplifies our
weaker nature asÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* citizens trusting in God; it is to Him we
turn for HisÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* divine guidance. 5.Â* The fifth fold is an
acknowledgement to our country,Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* for in the words of Stephen
Decatur, ?Our country, inÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* dealing with other countries, may
she always be right,Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* but it is still our country, right or
wrong.? 6.Â* The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is
withÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of
theÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* United States of America, and to the republic for
whichÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with
libertyÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* and justice for all. 7.Â* The seventh fold is a
tribute to our armed forces, for itÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* is through the armed
forces that we protect our country andÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* our flag against all
enemies. 8.Â* The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered
intoÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the
lightÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* of day, and to honor our mother, for whom it flies
onÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* Mother?s Day. 9.Â* The ninth fold is an honor to
womanhood, for it has beenÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* through their faith, love, loyalty,
and devotion that theÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* character of men and women who have made
this country greatÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* have been molded. 10. The 10th fold is
a tribute to father, for he, too, has givenÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* his sons and
daughters for the defense of our country sinceÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* he or she was
first-born. 11. The 11th fold, in the eyes of Hebrew citizens,
represents theÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* lower portion of the seal of King David and
King SolomonÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob. 12. The 12th fold, in the eyes of a Christian
citizen, representsÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in
their eyes, God theÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost. 13.
The last fold, when the flag is completely folded, the stars
are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, ?In GodÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â* We
Trust.? See now a math guy like John might also point out that it
has to do with the geometry of the flag ;-) Yes we learned out
how to fold a flag in elementary school, back when the Lord's Prayer
and the Pledge of Allegiance was part of the morning opening. We
stopped the Pledge when they shoved that "under god" b.s. into it. I
wasn't aware the flag folding routine had all that religious nonsense
in it. Apparently whoever wrote it never read or understood the
Constitution.-- MAGA - Manipulating America's Gullible Assholes
Like some of us were discussing recently, you Fat Harry Krause are
Â* a real piece of ****.
One of the reasons I posted the thing about the meaning of folding the
flag was inspired by another thread in here with the subject,
"I know this annoys some ...."Â*Â*Â*Â* :-)
Inspired by Fat Harry, you say. Washa you mouf out wit soap. :-)
Truthfully, I never knew why it was folded exactly 13 times or the
symbolism and meaning of each fold was.Â* I thought it was in
honor of the 13 original states, like many others.
Thought it was interesting and provides a much deeper history of
what the origins of the United States of America stand for.

Pity Fat Harry. His ability to produce rational thought on his own, no
longer exists, if it ever did at all.
