Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is allowing some beaches in northern Florida
to reopen, The Associated Press reported on Friday, even though the
state has continued to see an increase in coronavirus cases.

As of Friday, Florida had reported over 24,000 cases of the virus and
nearly 700 deaths.

DeSantis, who initially left it up to local officials to close their
beaches and other establishments, said at a news conference on Friday
that some counties could start reopening their beaches if they wanted,
adding that it was important for people to get fresh air, the AP reported.

"Do it in a good way," DeSantis said. "Do it in a safe way."

He is talking about the pan handle, not that ******** on the North
East corner of the state you love so much.
The counties he wants to allow to open have a very low number of cases
and the beaches are not particularly crowded. It is very easy for your
party to be 100 feet from the nearest other soul. Don't confuse this
with Coney Island or even Miami, Ft Lauderdale. You could easily open
the beaches here too, for the same reason. At this time a year you
could walk a mile down the beach in Sanibel or Ft Myers Beach and only
see a dozen people. If you were on Lover's Key you might not see
anyone. Where my kids lived in Mexico Beach we usually had the beach
to ourselves.

This is a big state and the things that might make sense in Miami 600
miles away are ridiculous up in the pan handle.
