So much for all of those rants about steel ammo.
I presume the guy I got the casings from at the range had reloaded them
with encased lead bullets, unless it is common practice to reload brass
casings with ferrous bullets. The bullets I snagged at my buddy's
reloading bench were non-ferrous. But, of course, you jumped to another
set of erroneous conclusions. I did note that some relatively cheap
"steel" ammo shot well out of a particular rifle.
The steel ammo uses lead filled jackets. It is the jacket that is
steel, actually what they call bi-metal but it still sticks to a
magnet. I am not even sure you can buy steel bullets in the US unless
they are coming from the 3d world. For your purposes none of that
matters tho.
