We're not about to get into a shooting war with a nuclear power and the

killed en masse, so what's the point? These ships are vulnerable.

Better we should build more hospital ships and dispatch them where
needed around the world. We'd be spending far less and building good will.

Any smart enemy knows now that all it has to do is unleash a biological
weapon in a half dozen U.S. cities to bring us to our knees.


Seems Sadam would disagree on carriers being ineffective.

Most of the attacks on Iraq came from land based bombers (One of the
reasons 3/4ths of the 9/11 attackers were Saudi) but we have had
success beating up other little countries with our carriers. It has
really been the threat more than an actual attack. You do get their
attention when you park a Carrier Battle Group just over their horizon
and FA-18s are making low level supersonic passes over your city
breaking windows.
