After all the problems we had with the English Pointer, I thought we had adopted the perfect dog -
almost. She won't sit in laps, which I wanted, but other than that she's about as good a dog as one
could want.

Yesterday when she jumped off the porch (only two steps high) she must have landed wrong. She
immediately pick the right rear leg up and was walking only on three legs. Lots of pain. I took her
to the vet, who diagnosed her with a grade 2 medial luxating patella. She put her on an
anti-inflammatory and restricted motion for two weeks. We'll then decide if she can continue without
surgery.

Dog ownership is becoming a depressing activity!

My rescue black lab (that someone dumped into our neighborhood) came up limp like that twice. Both time he recovered, and we never had an issue since in about 6 years. Took some vet drugs, and in a couple of day was back to normal.

IMO, that's partially because of over-breeding. A good old Hienz 57 dog will live forever, but the "bred" dogs seem to have all sorts of ailments. One reason I'll never again buy a dog.

I hope yours is a temporary setback, and he heals and it OK moving forward.

This was a rescue dog, but probably a purebred Redbone. In doing some reading, there are some vets
who think over-vaccinating may be a cause for a lot of the joint problems.

After my last dog I told myself I'd not get another. Got talked into it. Oh well, she's a great dog
otherwise.
