They are there for training purposes. Do you actually think 350 or 700
US Marines could hold off the Russians?

They have about as good a chance as 50,000 army guys have in holding
off North Korea. It is just a trip wire when you have troops like
that. It would just be a speed bump in a real invasion but would incur
the full wrath of the US.
