Something I didn't know:
In 1971 approximately 76 members of the House were military veterans.
In 2018 only 18 members of the House are veterans.
In 1971 78 members of the Senate were military veterans.
In 2018 only 19 members of the Senate are veterans.
Gosh, do you suppose that had something to do with the aging of WW II
and Korean War vets, and the 1973 ending of the draft?
Nope.
Ending the draft may have had something to do with it. The military
was not as closely connected to the average American and the rise of
people who think like Harry started. He truly believes the military is
just people who were incapable of doing anything else. I wonder if ie
really feels that way about John Kerry or Tammy Duckworth.
There are a few in the military whose choices were limited, but these days the vast majority are bright young people with a strong sense of duty and honor, both of which are seemingly foreign to harry.
