Heh. I've been taking B-12 supplement pill daily for over a year based
on the recommendation of the doc at the VA following the first round of
blood tests.
Two following appointments and blood tests since the B-12 level was
within normal range.
I just had another blood test last week and an appointment this morning
to review the results.
The normal range for B-12 is from 600 to 900 (somethings). Mine
was near 1,600. Doc was mystified a bit until I told her that I
was on a shrimp kick for a couple of weeks just prior to the bloodwork.
Turns out that four (4) medium sized shrimp contains 75 percent of the
B-12 you need daily. I had been eating a lot more than that.
But, I also read up on shrimp. As much as I like 'em, farm raised
shrimp (which is about all you can find now-a-days) isn't very good for
you. Farm raised shrimp are grown in nasty conditions and are treated
with antibiotics and other harmful crap that you ingest. So much for
shrimp. No more.
The doc I have as my PCP is a blood work analyst. I am sure he could
be replaced by a computer. He told me I had a B-12 problem once so I
bought some pills but ever since it is good, whether I am taking the
pills or not. I do like shrimp. Fortunately we can get wild caught
gulf shrimp here and they are worth "twice the price" that they
command over the septic tank raised "Asian Tiger" shrimp at Costco. I
still get the Costco for the freezer but if I am down at the beach I
get the fresh caught "wild". They actually taste like shrimp lightly
steamed. If you are putting them is something spicy like scampi the
farm stuff is OK.
I had the fresh for the fish fry blowout and snake rodeo earlier this
week.
