Old TTY test messages to test comm gear back when Navy

If your never heard a Mod 28 teletype running at 100 words
per minute, here's your big chance!

I hat is way neat. From what I can remember they had those at Fort
Carson Colorado but I never heard one light off. I remember the distinct
“hump” of one on standby though. Now the local radio station had one
several years ago hooked up for UPI news. It didn’t work but about half that speed.
My roommate before marriage worked summers at a small radio station. They
were a rip and read news station. Go in the closet, rip the news feed off
the TTY and read it. He said they had a lightning hit. The transmitter
did a normal reset and happily went back to work. When the went to rip
off the TTY sheet, there was a somewhat melted TTY in the closet. I
forgot all about the first unit I was assigned to. A mobile comm squadron.
We had a bunch of teletypes and would set them up to receive the
different news feeds. Took part of the morning to set up.Then read the
news and go to lunch. Had forgotten all about that. Thanks for the
memories.
