More likely the navy is wasting money on new ships no one needs rather
than properly train sailors
They call that a jobs program. Everyone of those ships represents
thousands of high paying union jobs, scattered across the country.
They may be assembled in Mississippi or Alabama but various parts come
a hundred or more congressional districts. That is how defense
contracts work.
I would be just as happy if they were building more roads and bridges
but the localities who can afford them already are and the ones who
can't still won't be able to, even with massive infusions of federal
dollars. They will just divert the money to losing propositions like
trains nobody is willing to pay for and the bridges will be left to
rust out more.
