Went to Half Moon Bay for Veterans Day trip. We were also having a crab
feed for veterans, mostly disabled. Did toss my pots on Saturday morning
as Friday was nasty seas. Saturday was maybe 8’ swells and no wind waves
too matter. We fed the Vets, and later went out to pull the pots. Had
used 4. Ended up with 7 legal Dungeness crabs, tossed back maybe 8
undersized, smaller than 6” for sport size. Released a bunch of,rock
crabs, one probably the largest I have ever caught. Maybe 8” across behind
the horns. Gave a couple to Cambodian friends this morning. They would
have like the rock crabs. Red rock crab actually taste very good, but
most of the meat is in the claws. Some just save one claw. Will regrow
on next molt. Catching will not be as good after this as commercial season
starts Wednesday. Will be a maybe 6000 pots fishing out of Pillar Point
Harbor. Boats are allowed 250 pots now I think.
Damn, I might could have flown out there for some free crab!
Good to hear of your support for those guys. Thanks.
