It's really too bad Pachelbel's original piece has been so schmaltzed up
with over-orchestration and a drastic increase in tempo. As written, it
is a sweet bit for three violins and continuo.
This is the way it is supposed to sound, though even here there are a
couple too many instruments, e.g., the lute and the organ, though the
organist appears to be bolstering the continuo part. It is a much more
delicate and slower piece than the modern versions seem to give it.

I'm also not a fan of Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's Pictures at
an Exhibition. It's a superior piece of piano music, overdone in Ravel's
arrangement. This is the way it is supposed to sound:
