You should have went with titanium or monel (the stuff they use for
dog tags) ;-)

316 or a similar cousin would work. The stuff you see rusting on boats
is usually 304/18-8.
It s stronger but not as stainless.

Stainless also has a problem with something called crevice corrosion
if oxygen can not freely circulate, not sure if that appllies within
bone. It's definitely an issue on boats however.

My doc. said my replacement part is of a titanium alloy. Your
parts are there to keep things together while the bones mend.
They don't need to last indefinately. That's what I think.
