They do make larger drum type magazines for ARs.
He broke out the windows.

This was reported as being a "millionaire" so with enough money you
can buy anything. They also say he was a gambler so he may have been
an ex millionaire.
He may have just snapped after a bad night in the casino.

He had already been there since Thursday so the "bad night" scenario
seems less likely to me. Unless he left a note or internet screed
it's going to be difficult to figure out exactly what his issues were.
