Most dishwashers have a pair of hollow blades inside that spin and from
which the washing water emanates. The blades have very small holes in
them. Sometimes those holes get clogged. When they do, the efficiency of
the dishwasher drops drastically. The blades usually are removable and
can be flushed out.

Our 10 year old Maytag does a good job of cleaning.
