BTW..Toyota sent me a form letter today saying how special I am owning a
2013 Highlander and living in this geographic area. Due to high demand
for my model they have a special promotions on to enable be to
upgrade to a 2017 model.
Aren't those car salesmen thoughtful.

It is a 2016 model. Had 3K miles on it as a dealer "demo" but is
warranted and titled as "new". Peppy little sucker though and quiet.
All that matters is that "she" likes it.

Don't know if they still make them or not.

I got a similar letter about the Nissan Altima I bought just about a
year ago. "Due to a shortage of clean, previously owned autos we can
offer you 125% of the current market value of your 2016 Nissan Altima
towards the purchase of any new Nissan product.

Geeze. Gimme a chance to put a few miles on it first, will ya?

My buddy went to the GMC dealer for some new tires on his 2015 diesel
pickup. Came home with a 2017. They gave him $43k for the truck, $10k off
the new one, a $700 Costco gift card and some other stuff. So instead of
spending a grand for new tires, got a new truck for not a lot more.

I keep getting these cards for the 2009 Silverado 250HD with the
Duramax/Allison combo. But, I don't
think I'd want to mess with the DEF crap. With mine, I don't.

My son in law has a newer RAM diesel. DEF does not seem to be a problem.
Put a gallon in the tank and good to go for 5000 miles or so I think. The
new Trucks are nice. I am looking to replace my camper on the truck, but
my 2004 will bring about $25k, so only $55k more for a new truck. I think
I will stay with mine and the 160k miles.

$25K + $55K more for a new truck? $80K for a pickup truck? Wowser! And I
thought I was slightly nuts for dropping what I did plus a beat-up
Altima for a 4WD Taco.

You can spend that kind of money for a loaded F-*50 but that will be a
Lincoln with a truck bed in back. This is not Fred Sanford's F-1

I just remembered my dad's boatyard truck, an actual Ford V8 Model A
truck with a crane he built welded onto the frame that he used to lift
boats off the delivery truck. I started driving that truck around the
boatyard right after I "mastered" the jeep. Truck was painted red and
white and actually was kind of cool.

Did you do anything but play in your youth? Maybe that's why your
dad didn't put you through a decent college. He knew you wouldn't
amount to anything.

I worked Saturdays at the boatyard or sales showroom. You are in no
position to criticize anyone's college education, as you couldn't figure
out your way through an open admissions community college.

What sort of chores did you do?

When I was really little, I washed and waxed boats and picked up the trash
that found iits way to the boatyard. At around 12, I started helping out on
boat rigging and boat deliveries and working the gas dock. I also sold
paints and accessories in the showroom and bathed and fed the dog and pet
raccoons.
