WLS is/was one of the 5 or 6 50KW "clear channel" AM stations in the
US and you can get it on the east coast on a clear night.
We used to listen to it in DC all the time. A good car radio will get
it but if you have an old "all american" 5 bottle radio and a decent
long wire antenna it will come in 5x5.
I grew up on it in Sedalia, MO.
You were within range of the ground wave. We were working skip.
