Spilled battery!!
NEVER use a metal Bracket to hold down a battery. If it comes lose, the
chances of a short and fire are excellent.
An Oak 1x2 across the battery is better with threaded rod at each end,
Better still are The Polypropelene Tie-downs that use a ratchet mechism.

Yeah, Mike, mix up as strong a solution of baking soda as you can and
slosh
it all around the battery tray. It will fizz and sizzle as the acid is
neutralized, so keep pouring the stuff on until the fizzing stops. Then
rinse thoroughly with fresh water, dry things off--and tie those batteries
down with metal brackets.

I had a battery become loose and tip over during a rough passage and
have
battery acid in my battery compartment. What can I use to neutralize the
acid
and clean up the mess without ruining my pants.
Thanks for your help
Mike
