ok guys, i just saw a program called Sail Simulator on the internet, and
need some opinions. i would like to buy it but hate the idea that i
wouldnt like it. so, does anybody over here know it? and what's it like?
its on sailsimulator.com. hope you guys can give me some useful opinions.
Well, download the demo...
For me, it's a great tool to learn basic skills, but it's a pitty you
can only race online. If you like racing offline I'll suggest Virtual
Skipper 2.
it's OK but the lack of a course editor really lets VSK2 down... just two
cans (with an offset de-conflictor can) gets _really_ boring...
And only being able to sail in those few locations with that poor selection
of boats sucks as well.
There is another product called virtual sailor. You can use boats and
scenery created by other users. It is let down (in my opinion) by the low
resolution of the scenery system... coastlines and inlets etc. are very
difficult to set up to actually match reality as the scenery is done with a
"bitmap" rather than a vector database.

However, I do enjoy this one for virtual cruises
