Default Joanne Ellis Memorial Trophy

Dayton Record Runs Assoc. is pleased to announce the establishment of
the Joanne Ellis Memorial "Fast Lap" Award and Trophy which will be
inagurated at this year's Great American Outboard Race in Dayton,
Ohio. The Award will go to the driver who breaks an established
record by the greatest margin during racing at the Hydrobowl. Joanne
Ellis was one of the initial organizers in the drive to convince the
City of Dayton to turn the old gravel pit at the intersection of Rte.
4 and Harshman Road in Dayton Ohio into a park for boat racing use.
The late Mrs. Ellis was a fierce competitor in the AMR class and raced
along with her husband, Bill, in the Modified Category. In her later
years, Mrs. Ellis was the behind-the-scenes race organizer for the
Great American Outboard Race and did all of the work necessary to keep
the event going through the end of the 1990's. Mrs. Ellis passed away
recently and Dayton Record Runs is pleased to initiate this award in
her memory. 14-H.
