If I was playing devil's advocate I would say the republicans are
stopping them from eliminating these babies in the womb before they
hit the welfare rolls and then enter prison system.
Some hard core conservatives even object to birth control.
If the goal is to increase the size of the welfare check, then elimination is not a
consideration. Besides, Republicans aren't stopping the abortions anyway. They'd just
like to. And, it's not hard core conservatives who are making the wefare babies.
Hard core liberals will say you're punishing the child again.
Punishing? I would kill them in the womb if they have no visible means
of support if they are born ;-)
To say republicans are not against abortion and even birth control is
just intellectually dishonest.
I didn't say they weren't against it, I said they weren't 'stopping' it as you had
said.
Start a conversation about giving out condoms, pills or Norplant in
school and see what happens. This whole planned parenthood thing is
ridiculous if you are really worried about welfare babies and welfare
moms.
Birth control is part of the Fairfax County sex education curriculum. I think it's
great. Condoms, the pill, etc, should be free. You're right that the Catholic Church
is still against birth control, which is my big disagreement with the Church.
The "abstinence" BS is just about as effective as Nancy telling the
kids to say "no" on drugs. It is not the availability of birth control
that encourages kids to have sex, it is hormones.
Agreed.
We have removed most of the fear of pregnancy by removing the stigma
of having a ******* child and the availability of welfare has removed
the fear of starving. Kids are dumb enough to think that $20-30k a
year on the public tit is "righteous bucks".
Again, agreed.
The fact that they, and their mom was illegitimate, does not help.
Absolutely agree.
What ever happened to the good old shotgun wedding? The country
started going down hill when the need to marry the girl you knock up
went away.
I think many of the unwed mothers don't want the father known. Might cut down on
their money. Or they may not know. Probably quite difficult to get a bunch of f'em
and leave 'em fathers to submit to DNA testing.
Thanks Murphy.
Dan Quayle was right. It takes a family to raise a family.
Didn't he grow potatos too?
