You need a Panasonic Toughbook. Huge numbers of them are riding
around in police cars in full sun. Purchased off-lease, prices are
fairly reasonable.


That is not a horrible idea but when I have looked into laptop
solutions in the past, I have trouble finding them that support any
kind of remote power on and off.
The PCs I was using had the option to power on after a power failure
(key off)

Yes, most desk top PCs can be set up do do that. It's important to
remember however that laptops have sort of a built in UPS function as
long as the battery is good. Even a marginal battery will get you
through most power blips.


If it doesn't come on with the key and go off with the key, it is not
useful to me. My MP3 players all do that, PC or not.
