Yeah, I don't download "torrents" or music/video files from usenet
sources.

This is mostly kids "sharing" large files, mostly pirated.
I was never happy with the software they want you to load.
These days most music is on Youtube anyway. Movies show up on Amazon
or Netflix pretty fast
.......

Music I usually go to Grooveshark, AOL radio, or some 'underground' station..

A lot depends on exactly what you are looking for. There is some
obscure "ripped from vinyl" stuff you will only find on the usenet
binary groups. You can usually find very good rips on Amazon of things
with commercial value. If you just want "radio" grade music with any
popular following, it is usually on you tube. The actual quality will
vary on that. It seems fine for playing in the car or out by the pool.
If you actually have an engineered listening room, a real good system
and good ears, there are probably unacceptable defects in that stream
but I am OK with them. ;-)

I try not to have anything less than 320kbps mp3's in my own personal
collection, depending on the genre. Most of the 50's and earlier stuff,
and even a lot of 60's, is fine at 160.

Not a big fan of flac... The file size at that point doesn't justify
the minor increase in audio quality unless you're listening to classical
music in silence on a high-end system.
