I've often thought of flying out to Hollywood to give them advice, especially when I
see 'Army officers' with totally dicked up uniforms.

I am amazed at the ribbons I see from time to time. They have guys in
"gulf war" movies with WWII campaign ribbons and such.
I also see them arranged out of order quite often. I suspect it might
just be a wardrobe girl who wants to put them in a pleasing
arrangement without actually understanding that they all mean
something.

I also recognize that there are a lot more medals awarded these days.
You can see pictures of guys you know were all over Europe and Asia in
WWII who don't have as many ribbons as teenaged colonels in the Air
Force today. When I worked at the pentagon it seemed every time a guy
moved down the hall, he got a new device of some sort. Some of those
pentagon guys looked like a 19th century Mexican general.
