My neighbor across the street owns a 2004 F250 with the diesel engine. She says the truck loses power and stutters on
long grades, without a load. I checked some of the forums and found what I thought - fuel filter, EGR valve, etc.
Did you ever experience anything like that?
No. When I had problems it just quit running.
However, his symptoms sound like fuel starvation. I 've heard of
similar problems in a in a diesel powered boat when the fuel filters
are clogged.
That's what I'm thinking also. She didn't remember when she'd last changed the fuel filter, if ever. He, the husband,
does nothing about anything.
Thanks for the comeback.
Diesel also grows fungus in the tank that will plug a filter pretty
fast
Diesel has growth inhibitors added by the distributor. I learned that
after wasting money on anti-growth additives when I first had the Navigator.
It's not really a problem with vehicles anyway because you use the fuel
quickly and before any critters can start taking up residence. In boats
or diesel generators it can be a problem if the fuel is left unused in
the tank(s) for long periods of time ... like years.
When I was getting ready to bring the Navigator back to MA from Florida
it had fuel in it that was over a year old. As a precaution, I had the
fuel "polished" before leaving. Based on what the filters in the
polishing rig captured, it really wasn't necessary. The fuel was still
clean.
Plus, I had a system installed on that boat that had two large Racor
filters for each engine with lines and valves set up so you could switch
from one filter to the other without even shutting the respective engine
down.
