Why would you want a 9 pound rifle?

Maybe because it makes .308 more pleasant to shoot?

None of us are humping our rifle across France and Germany and our
parents had no problem doing that with a M1 and 200 rounds of ammo,
along with everything else they needed to survive.
Nine pounds, with another few pounds of ammo is not that much to
carry, wherever I plan on going to shoot it. Those extra few ounces
make the recoil a lot more pleasant if you are shooting a man's round.
Maybe you should just be working on your upper body strength. ;-)
