birth control. Even with higher rates of abortion there are still a
huge number of black out of wedlock children. One parent families
tend to not do very well on average. Statisically their prospects for
growing into educated, responsible adults are very poor. A huge
number will end up on public assistance, and huge numbers will end up
involved with substance abuse and crime. Those are just the facts.

Here, in DC, about 80% of black births are to unwed mothers. I know what you mean.
Bill Cosby, with all his faults, made good points when talking to black men about
taking responsibility for the babies they make. Very many don't.

I can't imagine them being unaware of birth control. Sex education, including birth
prevention, is taught in the public schools. In fact, it might be taught to the
detriment of math and reading!
