Back then, since, and now, I could never

with attempts to re-establish colonialism in that part of the world.
It's too bad more young men and their parents didn't resist and end the
catastrophe years before the war petered out. "My country, right or
wrong," is the height of jingoistic stupidity.

Some of us actually thought we might pay back a little by serving our
country and war was not even an issue because you got your wish and
the country elected that peace loving LBJ, who immediately LIED us
into a war. (while I was in boot camp)

It does make me wonder what would have happened if Goldwater had won.
It could not have possibly been worse.

Who knows, Vietnam might not have happened, the budget may have been
balanced and Social Security might have been put on a track where it
would be solvent now.
