1/2 inch nylon is kind of light for riding out a hurricane. How do
you keep the nylon from sinking to the bottom when you go for a sail?

I just tie a blue fender onto the nylon. The fender is labeled,

"PRIVATE"

For hurricanes, I double up on the 1/2 nylon rodes. Four times
1/2" is very strong and provides redundancy just in case.
