Glad I don't have to be responsible for that.
Some of these sea going ferries do spectacular things every day.
Occasionally they go down with thousands of people on board too ;-(
That does seem to have a D Day feel to it tho.
I watched a similar docking of a Cozumel ferry at an open ocean pier in
the Yucatan in very rough seas. The Captain took several runs at it
before he made a successful landing. I got the feeling that it was a
pretty routine landing in those waters.
I used to take the Long Island Ferry twice a week when I was working on
Long Island and commuting home to MA on weekends. Some crossings from
CT to the tip of Long Island got pretty rough with strong wind,
especially in the winter months. The ferry loaded and unloaded at it's
bow, so it didn't have to back in to the dock. They also had stout
pilings that extended out into the water the full length of the ferry,
so once the ferry captain was lined up, he could just to slow ahead and
the pilings guided it in.
