The guys I shoot with would have no problem paying a substantial
excise tax. Most would go on a buying spree before the tax was
enacted however, and the NRA would have the whole deal in the courts
for years. That's what we pay them for.

Most serious shooters reload their own ammo for pennies a round. These
are not the guys committing gun crimes however so why penalizer them?
