Atchafalaya Paddle Trails, a Louisiana trail-building nonprofit, is
leading several trips in the wild and scenic Atchafalaya Basin this
winter and spring to survey potential paddle trails and campsites.
While most are day trips, there are two overnight trips and one
two-night trip. Kayaks are available to rent, and arrangements can be
made to rent canoes, tents or other camping gear or for shuttles to
nearby accomodations. There is no charge to come along on the trips.

Feb 11 Bayou Gravenbourg 12 miles, through a mixed tupelo gum and
cypress swamp
Feb 14 Two O'clock Bayou 10 miles, a nice narrow and dark-watered
bayou
Feb 15 Half Moon Bayou 10 miles
Feb 18 Little Lake Long 5 miles
Feb 21 Upper Grand River Flats 8 miles an open cypress swamp
Feb 28 Sherburne Trail 19 miles
Mar 6 Bayou Chevreuil 9 miles of winding, narrow bayous
Mar 10 Grand Avoille Cove Trail 6 miles
Mar 13 - 14 Alligator Bayou and Bayou Crook Chene - Overnight: about
40 miles, with good current in parts.
Mar 17 Bayou Benoit Trail 5 miles
Mar 24 Lower Grand Lake 12 miles, but a good current.
Mar 27 - 28 Bayou Long - Overnight: 35 miles
Apr 3 Murphy Lake 14 miles, very wild and scenic.
Apr 9 - 11 Bayou Pigeon - Two nights 15 miles each day.
