Progressive seems to have good service but their prices are high.

"I checked into Progressive for kicks once and found their policy
rates
were higher than what I have been paying.

We've had the same insurance agency for 40 years and they shop for us
for the best rates. I was pleasantly surprised last October when I
turned 65 that they gave a 25% discount for being an old fart with a
perfect driving record. With that discount places like Progressive
and Geico can't come close. "

25 per cent discount?
I'd better check with my agency. Not only did I hit 65 last August
but I
only put an average 6000 miles on the Highlander the last two years.

Look for the low miles per year discount.

My auto insurance underwriter is Citizens Insurance of America
which is part of the "Hanover Group".
I pulled out my policy and looked at the discount schedule. They have
a "safe" driver discount and, sure enough, a 25% discount for 65
and over *if* you also have the safe driver designation. Nice.

We use a mutual insurance company. Very competitive on rates. Only had
one
claim in 20+ years, and the service and settlement were fine.

I've never filed an accident claim in my life. The only claim I have
ever made was for a cracked windshield due to a wayward stone from a
passing gravel truck and those are no fault claims. I've had two
tickets, one for an expired inspection sticker about 35 years ago and
another about a year and a half ago for entering an intersection on a
yellow light. That one sorta ****ed me off because it was one of those
situations where you have to quickly decide to brake hard to stop
or go through. Well, I went through ... right in front of a pimply
faced MA State Trooper who must have just graduated from the police
academy. I swear he was about 21 years old. Anyway, he read me the
riot act and gave me a $100 ticket. I didn't bother arguing with him
because I *did* enter the intersection late and he didn't seem to be in
an understanding mood. I fully expected to receive a surcharge on my
insurance, but they must have given me a pass because when the policy
was renewed there was no mention of it. Lucked out because up here the
surcharge remains for 7 years.

I've only had one accident claim in my driving lifetime, when a deer
ran out of the woods, got hit by another car, and his carcass was
projected under my car, a Turbo Volvo at the time, and tore out a
bunch of stuff, including plumbing.

Couple of years ago, lightning took out one of our outdoor heating/ac
compressors. $6000 to replace everything, including the indoor portion
of the unit. No increase in premium... "no-fault" claim.

A turbo? Wow! You must be proud!

Is luck. I was in three accidents in one year. None my fault. 2 while
parked and I while stopped at a light. One of the parked accidents was hit
run.
