Harry, are you claiming that Jeb Bush, as governor of Florida, was
responsible for troop deployments to the Middle East?

Interesting theory. Does anyone else know this?

Yeah Harry thinks the Governor of Florida has the same amount of
secret communication as the sitting SoS.
**** you can't even see Cuba from here, much less Russia ;-)

Funny to watch you righties clamor around yet another Bush, the
family
that gave us the mess in the middle east.

"Righties clamoring"

Harry, you brought it up.

Tim, I'm not "clamoring" for another Bush as POTUS. Several of the
righties here, though, apparently see him as the last great white male
hope. Wait...there's still Neil Bush!

So far, it appears the "other" choice is another Clinton who is
probably
more dishonest than the first.

Let's be real here. In my opinion the most dishonest presidents since
Nixon
about things that matter were Reagan and George W. Bush.

That could be debated forever. Meanwhile, step back and consider the
forest rather than the trees. Under who's administrations in the 20th
and 21st centuries has the USA enjoyed the greatest economic prosperity,
security and global respect? Clue: It certainly hasn't been in the
past 6 years.

It certainly wasn't during the G.W. Bush administration. His legacy was
was an economic, diplomatic, and military mess.

Interestingly, you switched topics from presidential honesty to how
wonderful Reagan was. There are those who say his administration's
playing footsie with the Iranians and with Hezbollah and then, of
course, with the Contras, showed how unreliable and untrustworthy the
U.S. was, and gave Saddam Hussein the feeling that he ought to "do
something" to further secure his reign against the Iranians and others
by moving against Kuwait a few years later and therefore the Reagan
Administration's actions to assist Iran set up G.H.W. Bush's first Gulf
War against Iraq.

I think Reagan knew what was going on with the Iranian scandal, despite
his denials. I can't make up my mind whether "Dubya" really had any
concept of the havoc, short and long term, that would result from his
Iraqi war. That Bush is either the biggest liar of any president since,
oh, LBJ, or the dumbest and most naive.

Covert operations, including random payoffs are nothing new and continue
to this day. Difference today is they are often conducted by
the CIA using private contractors in order to avoid any official
connection to the US government.
