...in Florida, where the state government controlled by
Republic Rick
Scott, may have figured out a way to beat climate change:
ignore it.

A report by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting
published
Sunday details the claims by employees of the Florida
Department of
Environmental Protection, who say that they were ordered to
refrain from
using the terms "climate change," and "global warming" in official
communications.

"We were told not to use the terms 'climate change,' 'global
warming' or
'sustainability,' " Christopher Byrd, an attorney with the
DEP's Office
of General Counsel in Tallahassee from 2008 to 2013, told FCIR.
"That
message was communicated to me and my colleagues by our
superiors in the
Office of General Counsel."

The unwritten policy went into effect shortly after Governor
Rick Scott,
a global warming skeptic, took office. With the publication of
FCIR's
report, several climate change believers took to Twitter to
express
their dismay.

While less formal, the Florida policy is reminiscent of a 2012 law
passed by lawmakers in North Carolina that prohibits the state
from
basing coastal policies on scientific predictions regarding sea
level
rise. Scientists have warned that, like much of Florida's
coastline,
North Carolina's outer banks are at particular risk from
climate change.

As usual, the stupid runs high and deep in the south.

Krause, do you live in the north or the south?

Because...wherever that is, stupid runs high and deep there.

He was self-describing. He lives below the Mason-Dixon.

And he is right, stupid does run high in the South. The lower
South you
get, the smarter folks are!

The last verse of the Maryland state song says it all

I hear the distant thunder-hum,
Maryland!
The Old Line's bugle, fife, and drum,
Maryland!
She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb-
Huzza! she spurns the Northern scum!
She breathes! she burns! she'll come! she'll come!
Maryland! My Maryland!

They are unreconstructed southerners.

I doubt state employees here will be told not to use the terms Florida
state employees were told not to use in regard to climate change.

No they just sing about spurning the northern scum. Wonder who that
means?

I vaguely remembered that little diddy from when we used to sing in
school.
It is interesting it hasn't been scrubbed.

As for global warming, it has been going on since the rise of
agriculture, what's your solution? Go back to more natural farming
techniques and scrub a few billion off the population?
I bet they won't be the rich white people you hate so much.

In the years I have lived in Maryland, I have never heard the state song
sung, not at ball games, festivals, or even at the opening of the
legislature. It's a relic from the Civil War era.

I was discussing *today*. Your state's backwards Republican government
has forbidden for political reasons its officials/employees from using
the terms "global warming" and "climate change."

In a further assault on sanity, your state's backwards Republican
government has forbidden medical personnel from discussing firearms
safety with their patients.

Why would anyone expect firearm tips from a doctor who probably never
owned one or had any training himself?

Pediatricians especially often ask home safety questions. Apparently
Rick Scott thinks he knows better.

Doctors notes are effectively public record. Would you want your kid
telling his doctor how you fondle your weapons?
