How's the Mosin Nagant shooting going?

I've given up on it for the time being. It's not a particularly fun
gun to shoot, at least not for me. Meanwhile I've been given a loaner
M-1 Garand in nice condition. It feels very similar to an M-14 which
I have always liked. Ammo is much more expensive than the Mosin
however.
It is the reason why I went for the M1A over a cheaper M1. 7.62x51 is
commodity ammo, 30-06 is almost a boutique caliber. There is lots of
hunting ammo around at about a buck a shot but not much surplus.
What are you shooting with those heavy caliber rifles? Balloons? Five
liter soda bottles? Armor plate? Alligators?
Probably the same things you shoot with your 357's
