Damn UPS wanted $85 to ship a gun to Texas for me. I sold it locally.

I've been told that FedEx will ship guns at a half way reasonable
rate.

This is where UPS got me:

"Handguns, as defined by 18 U.S.C. § 921, will be accepted for transportation only
via UPS Next Day Air Services, specifically, UPS Next Day Air® Early A.M.®, UPS Next
Day Air®, and UPS Next Day Air Saver®"

That 'next day air' **** is what gets expensive.

I looked at the Fedex site but could find no such requirement. Next time I'll know
better.

What is a "gun"? I know you can ship parts because I have received
them in the mail. Is the gun only when all the parts are in one box
(assembled?) or is it the serialized receiver?

How did Harry have to ship the barrel group on the MK?
(granted he may have also wanted the tracking you get with the better
service)
to the point
If you shipped a gun in two or more boxes USPS, is it illegal?

My understanding is that on a pistol, the "gun" is the serialized part.
In the case of my Ruger, that was the upper. The lower, which usually
carries the serial number, is called the "frame."
